The Pornification of a new generation

The article is basically placing its attention on how youths are exposed to porn easily through media. The various types of media such as television, internet, etc, are guilty for it.

Youths are exposed to media everyday, thus, it has becomes the source where they learn new things. As curious souls, they would be intrigued by the area of "pornification". Hence, the media should then carry the blame for influencing the youths in this aspect.

Media also gave the youths wrong idea that "porn" is common and it is nothing wrong morally. They are able to see it people's blog or even music video.

However, i feel that the media should not bear the entire blame for influencing the youths today. I feel that parents and teachers have the ability in teaching and coaching them in their everyday lives. Thus, they are able to teach youths in handling porn in a correct way and prevent the media from leading them astray.

The Youth of Today... A Lost Generation? (A)

The article is basically highlighting the changes in the lives of youth now in comparison to their parents' era, mostly born in the 1960s and 1970s. It is talking about the change that is happening in the 21st century. One of the points mentioned is globalisation and I agree with this point. Because of globalisation, people's lifestyles have changed and there are families who live in different parts of the world now. This is due to the readily available connection, be it phone, e-mail, facebook or Skype. I also agree with the writer's thinking that 'choice' has become central to how life is lived and taught. Youths get to choose almost everything now as compared to their parents. This could be one of the factors that attributes to why they require the society and their families to give them their own time, space and freedom, as stated in the last part of the article. Youths today are less independent than before so they need the time to slowly find their 'mature independence', as stated. Hence, the term lost generation arises because the youth of today are taking longer to mature and be independent because of the choices. The society is very volatile now as compared to last time so I feel people should give the youth of today more time. I do not think they are a lost generation, but rather, just a slower one to attain adulthood.

ALICIA :) / Are the youth of today less rugged? ('09)

Firstly, what does being 'rugged' mean to me? Well, I think that it means being able to endure hardships. An example would be being able to do physical activities like running 2.4km. What do you people think?

Personally, I think that Singaporean youths of today are less 'rugged'. The invention of televisions and computers have greatly affected youths today as many of them are addicted to their computer games like dota. This will cause them to want to stay home all day to play their computer games. Hence, this leaves them with lesser time for outdoor activities. However, as most of these youths are still studying, they have to attend physical education (PE) in school. During PE, these youths are required to play games or train for their Napfa test. Still, I feel that PE is not enough for youths as most of them would try to skip their PE lessons. As most youths today are very busy with their school work or their CCA, they would use the excuse of not having enough time for exercise. As more fast food restaurants open up in Singapore, this might cause more youths to consume more unhealthy fast food!

However, there is hope! :) There are more youths trying out for marathons and new outdoor activities these days as they want to try something new and of course, to keep fit! Well, physical appearance is getting more and more important to youths now and thus, they want to look their best! Don't you people agree? :)

Jaron/ The Multi-tasking Generation('09)

I think that teenagers are not making the best use of their time.

Teenagers are now immersed in the culture of multi-tasking and an example of that ubiquitous practice is doing homework, text messaging and using the computer simultaneously. They want to accomplish as many tasks as possible in the shortest time span thus the result to multi-tasking. However, by multi-tasking, teenagers are essentially not making the best use of their time as the quality of the work is compromised. Depth of thought is also affected as the focus on the tasks are split which is one of the reasons why the quality of the tasks are affected. Therefore, multi-tasking only causes the time invested to be wasted instead of being fully utilised.

Teenagers are also not making best use of their time as the technological advances have caused them to have less social interactions. An example is the addiction of games predominantly among boys. This addiction may also cause a deterioration of social bonds among friends which may eventually lead to a smaller social circle. Teenagers are also losing precious time which can be used for studying which affects academic grades.
