Personally, I think that Singaporean youths of today are less 'rugged'. The invention of televisions and computers have greatly affected youths today as many of them are addicted to their computer games like dota. This will cause them to want to stay home all day to play their computer games. Hence, this leaves them with lesser time for outdoor activities. However, as most of these youths are still studying, they have to attend physical education (PE) in school. During PE, these youths are required to play games or train for their Napfa test. Still, I feel that PE is not enough for youths as most of them would try to skip their PE lessons. As most youths today are very busy with their school work or their CCA, they would use the excuse of not having enough time for exercise. As more fast food restaurants open up in Singapore, this might cause more youths to consume more unhealthy fast food!
However, there is hope! :) There are more youths trying out for marathons and new outdoor activities these days as they want to try something new and of course, to keep fit! Well, physical appearance is getting more and more important to youths now and thus, they want to look their best! Don't you people agree? :)
:)
Well, I think that it means being able to endure hardships. An example would be being able to do physical activities like running 2.4km
ReplyDeleteFrom my understanding, you define 'hardships' as physical exercise, yes? If your argument is that youths are physically weak, then yes I think your examples do prove your argument.
However, try to expand your examples (remember the S.P.E.R.M technique). What about too much schoolwork= insufficient time for sports? What about overprotective parents= less exposure to more challenging activities/lifestyles?
Your argument could also be extended to hardships as defined by emotional/mental stress. Can youths cope with failure? Can they cope with challenges in school, in their social lives, in their mental health?
=) I like your comics hahaha! You can use them to talk about how male youths may be conforming to the media stereotype of 'mooks' who love violence and are lame.
FYI: the female version (sexualised underaged individuals) are called 'mid-riffs')
