This all comes down to one thing: uprising involvement in premature sex. What's the reason behind it? i believe it is due to all the over exposure to stuff that encourages youths to get involved in sexual activities. And, youths who have an innate sense of curiosity, will wanna try out new things.
The mass media in Singapore could also help by being more supportive of sex education through more positive treatment and coverage of the issue. There are existing programmes on radio and magazines such as Teenage and Seventeen that deal with the issue of sex among youths. However, top dailies such as The Straits Times, Lianhe Zaobao and Today, as well as television channels like Channel 5 and Channel 8 should also join in to extend the reach of sex education. [ ok this is not hollywood style but i think we have a topic in gp called mass media which is what is in the above. so yay. ]
bye.
i think the Singapore government should take a more active role in teenage pregnancy and not just pretend that it is an invincible problem. They should be more open to public forums and discussions about teenage pregnancy and also pre-marital sex.

Gracy: Do children today grow up too quickly? Give 3 reasons why you think so.
ReplyDeleteYou did not answer the question at all.
Yes, the MTV reality programme is a good example of how some children are going up too fast.
You mention that the increase in pre-marital sex is due to over-exposure to "stuff that encourages youths to get involved in sexual activities". What kind of stuff?
You mention that local magazines deal with the issue of sex amongst youths. But do they 'deal' with it? Is it seen as a problem? Or as a lifestyle that can be guided? What is the difference between seeing pre-marital (in this case teenage) sex as a problem and a lifestyle?
It's good that you mention what local media is doing to spread greater awareness of sex(uality) education but that still doesn't answer my question. Please refer to the end of the article.
