Being active in the workforce means that a huge proportion of time and efforts are put in working. This means that less time would be spent in taking care of the family and there would be a strain between work and family. So, should women be active in the workforce?
In my opinion, I feel that capable individuals should be active in the workforce. This includes the women. Having an effective workforce means that the workers must have well-polished skills and hence help the society in the improvement of the economy. For example, European Union women have filled 6million of 8 million new jobs created since 2000 as stated in the article. Thus, in this case, having females being active in the workforce is beneficial since it helps the country's economy.
However, if there's is a sudden surge in the number of capable women in the workforce, some people would worry about the domestic affairs that women are supposed to take charge of are now left unattended. Various issues such as low birth rate due to the reluctance of having children pose a problem to the society in a long run. Indeed, I must agree that such problems are causing much headaches to developed countries with low birth rate. However, I feel that such problems can be solved if the government are able to come up with effective meausures to curb such problems. For example, the policy set by Singapore government about low birth rate have worked out quite well. Hence, I believe that women should still pursue their career with much fervor as it is important to focus on what they really want.

Agree to a certain extent. To me, the whole essay is talking about women empowerment, where females are granted the right and equal social states as man. This equality is good and healthy. However, personally I felt that the social problem caused by more and more women entering the workforce is far greater than the economic benefit. Family life, birth rate, cultural damage and many more other areas of concerns.
ReplyDeleteI agree to a large extent.
ReplyDeletePeople who are capable ought to be in the workforce, but we have to take care of the emotional welfare of the citizens. For example, if our mothers were all to go out to work, we would not have people to take care of children and children may feel neglected as nobody seems to be there for them when they need someone.
I strongly agree with jayson that females should be granted the right and equal status as men in the workforce even though at times seems to me that men are the ones taking up the higher status positions be it in the country or firm.
ReplyDeleteSuch trend indeed do cause a problem such as declining birth rate as women would be more motivated to do well in their jobs and tend to put away the idea of having children, which is evidently seen in developed countries such as Singapore and Japan.
I agree that women should be active in the workforce as long as they're capable. In my opinion, the only domestic problem this pose is with the birth rate and not so much about the day to day running of a family because a male can run a family as well. If the female is more capable than the male in a family, then the female should work. She can still give birth to the child, and let the male take care of it.
ReplyDeleteI agree that women should be given a chance to join the workforce as well, as long as they have the ability because what counts in a job is not who the worker is, but how well he/she works. There isn't any problem even if all the women went out to work instead of men, except maybe that of birth rates and marriages, since women who are career-minded may decide against committing to a family. However, there are many househusbands now, and they are just as capable of taking care of domestic affairs as women are capable of being in the workforce. The traditional view of the women taking care of domestic affairs while the man becomes the breadwinner is thus becoming more and more incorrect. So the only problem with women working is that there may be less babies (?)
ReplyDeleteI feel that women should remain active in the workforce. Most women today are career driven and i believe that they should be given equal chance as men to work. As long as they are capable and are willing to contribute to the society, i see no reason for them to not work. Perhaps, the work load and labour time can be shorten so they would have more time to spend with their family and reduce the social problems.
